Monika Egri and Attila Pertis were born 1966 in Budapest, where they founded their Piano Duo in the 80s. First step in the Duo’s career was a concert in England, where they introduced themselves to the public in frame of the Festival „Hungarian Cultural Days in London“. Since then the artists performed in numerous concert halls in Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Austria and Switzerland. After having finished their studies in Budapest, the artists, who married in 1991, moved to Vienna, where they obtained the Piano Diploma by studying at the Musikhochschule der Stadt Wien with Prof. Heinz Medjimorec, pianist of the Haydn Trio Vienna. 1990 the Duo won the International Competition for Piano Duos at Finale Ligure (Italy), in addition they were awarded a special price for the best interpretation of a contemporary piece. This resulted in the artists‘ participation in Gala Concerts of the Italian as well the Hungarian TV, which again led to further invitations, amongst them to the Budapest Spring Festival, the Vienna Musikverein, etc. 1995 the Duo Egri & Pertis again was awarded a price, this time at the 11th International Piano Duo Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy. In 1996 the Duo acquired an absolute rarity in the world of instruments: A Pleyel Double Grand Piano, of which worldwide only a very few still exist. The artists presented this outstanding instrument for the first time to the public on occasion of their debut at the Viennese Musikverein in March 1997. Since then the artists have been invited to many prestigeous Austrian Festivals and concert series like the Carinthian Summer Festival, Oberösterreichische Stiftskonzerte, Laxenburger Schloßkonzerte, Musiksommer Klaus, etc. In May 2000 the Duo performed at the Vienna Festival at the Brahms Saal of the Musikverein. The critics acclaimed the Duos first CD „Journey around the World“, which has been released in 1995 as well as the second (Double-) CD with Opera Fantasies, Reminiscences and Transpcriptions for two Pianos by Franz Liszt, which has been issued in 1998, which received the „Grand Prix du Disque Liszt“. Meanwhile two further CDs, recorded on the Duos own historic Pleyel Double Grand Piano have been released. |
